Where to find support services

  • Switchboard (called Q Life if you are outside Victoria) has a peer-to-peer chat service for LGBTIQA+ people in Australia, which operates between 3pm to midnight daily. You can call them on 1800 184 527 or use their webchat service. This is Australia wide.

    Rainbow Door (another service of Switchboard) is a free, specialist LGBTIQA+ helpline for all Victorians. They can assist you to access support on issues such as family and intimate partner violence (including elder abuse), alcohol and other drugs, suicidal thoughts, relationship issues, sexual assault, social isolation, mental health, and wellbeing. Available 10am - 5pm, 7 days a week.

    Queerspace provides counselling and support services for members of the queer community in Victoria. This is not a crisis response service.

    Thorne Harbour Health provides medical, mental health, peer support and education services. This is not a crisis service. THH provides services in Victoria and South Australia.

    Pride in Place is a partnership that works in some areas of Victoria and can provide support and housing options for LGBTQIA+ folk who are homeless, at risk of homelessness or living in housing that is unsafe, insecure or too expensive.

    Family Access Network provides support and housing for young people with a specialist focus on LGBTIQA+ youth, in.Melbourne, Victoria.

    Sexual Health and Intimacy Psychological Services is a psychology organisation in Fitzroy and Box Hill, Victoria, who provide sex, intimacy and mental health treatment and training.

    Q+Law is a Victorian-wide service, which provides a free entry point to accessing legal assistance for all individuals who identify as part of LGBTIQA+ communities. Individuals identifying as LGBTIQA+ can contact our service for initial advice, information or referral. The service is available over the phone, online or in person.

  • Beyond Blue is available 24/7, on 1300 22 4636. You can also chat to a counsellor online, and connect with online peer community. This service is Australia-wide.

    Lifeline – call 13 11 14 for 24/7 phone support, or use the text or online chat service. Their website is also full of lots of useful mental health support information. This service is Australia-wide.
